Monday June 11th.
Since we have been filling our days, we decided to chill a little today, DW has the sniffles and is not 100%. We went to the Crazy Horse Memorial and I was amazed to learn that the original carver, Korczak Ziolkowski started in 1947, by hand and then married and had 10 children, who all helped work on project. The project is still managed by his wife Ruth (85 yrs old) today. I have a few photos for that and to answer a question, no one knows when it will be finished. The project is strictly private, and receives no federal money, only donations and ticket and merchandise sales. We did venture into Custer, which is a nice small town and had lunch there. We move on to a place called Four Mile, which is supposed to be a recreated 1880's style town. Not a whole lot here, so after quick tour, we came back by the camp ground and went the three miles to Hill City. Hill City is another small tourist town, for those who have been to Helen Ga or Cherokee. Did sample some wine and bought a couple for later. Flat Terry was so tired, she took a nap with DW. Now we are just going to have a nice evening and then the Deadwood trip is tomorrow. The flag photos are the different tribes in the region. I also had to include a photo of our rig and site.
