Day 4

What a day, Hit the road on I-90 west, to Rapid City, SD.  the country side for about 130 miles was very flat and farm and cattle land, very few homes or business in sight.  We had to, I say, Had to visit the first major to tourist attraction we came to, the Corn Palace in Mitchell SD.  This place is a large brick building, downtown Mitchell, with the exterior completely covered in murals done in corn and corn products.  Interesting to see the birds eating off the side of the building.  There is loop road that travels roughly 45miles from exit 131 and comes out at Wall, SD., this loop goes thru the Badlands of South Dakota, I have posted a few photos of this very scenic location, on photo has two black dots on white rock pinnacle, these dots are two vultures, perhaps waiting for someone to wander to far in and get lost. During this loop we saw Prairie dogs and a small buck deer grazing in an open meadow.  Next stop on the agenda was another tourist attraction, Wall Drug Store, in Wall, SD.  Once again, a location downtown, gives me plenty of driving practice in a 38ft Motor Home, towing a car for about 48ft. long.  Wall Drug Store is a city block long and wide store divided into multiple stores and carries most any items you may want from paintings of old west to blue jeans, western boots and hats etc.  If this store does not have it, you don't need it.  Left Wall about 4:30 pm Central time and had to fuel up outside Rapid City and then headed out to Rafters' Bar J Ranch, which is our home for next five days.  Drove by Mt. Rushmore on way to campground and it is magnificent, can't wait till tomorrow to go there.  Currently we are in motor home in strong thunder storms, I guess when you are high in mountains the thunder is closer and louder.  I have several photos to post about today.  The photos are smaller for blog, but click on photo and it will enlarge to full size.  Should anyone have something they wish photos of please comment and I will try, no promise but will try.
